Career Change Story
I now perform non-legal property work. I took voluntary redundancy without a job to go to. I had not been happy where I was for some time, due to a combination of personal factors and a general feeling that I was not in the right job. I was constantly stressed and worried, so when yet another round of redundancies was announced I decided to take the plunge.
I spent a few months thinking about what I wanted to do and the best way to go about it. As it happens, a friend sent my CV to another friend, we met for coffee, and the next thing I know I was offered a job at one of London's leading property development companies.
Career Change Reflections
The work is really diverse and never boring or repetitive. I have also found it hugely rewarding to be working at a small company as opposed to a global corporation. I miss my friends and colleagues from my old job but I have found that I see them just as much.
The downside is of course the remuneration - as a City lawyer you have false salary expectations. However I can say with complete conviction that I am much happier now than I was as a solicitor.
