Career Change Story
I now teach the LLB and LPC in a university. I sought a move out of legal practice due to the commercial pressures, which culminated in instructions to cut the quality of service given to "legal aid" clients. I saw the position advertised in The Guardian.
Career Change Reflections
On the plus side: interesting, challenging and rewarding work; more professional freedom; more flexible in terms of working hours; generous holiday entitlement.
On the minus side: top-heavy and inept management and administration; quality often sacrificed to quantity; good teaching not recognised or rewarded; relatively poorly paid.
